From iDEAL to Wero

In this article

From 22 January 2026, the iDEAL brand enters a new phase as part of a wider European payments transition. From that date, all references to iDEAL in communication, documentation, and user interfaces must be updated to iDEAL | Wero. This applies across all channels and formats.

This image marks an important change in the European e-commerce landscape: the transition from iDEAL to Wero.

From iDEAL to a European standard

The iDEAL | Wero phase reflects the migration of iDEAL into Wero, the new European payment solution developed under the European Payments Initiative (EPI). Wero combines the familiar and trusted iDEAL experience with a broader European reach, supporting cross-border payments and future expansion.

What started as a national payment method is becoming part of a European standard.

Logo usage and rollout timeline

Merchants should be aware of the following milestones:

  • The iDEAL | Wero logo may be used in customer communication before 29 January 2026

  • Use of the logo in the checkout environment is permitted from 29 January 2026

  • Only the official rectangular and square logo formats may be used

Following these guidelines is important to ensure consistency and compliance during the transition.

Why this matters for Hypernode customers

Updating your payment setup is just as important as keeping your hosting infrastructure up to date.

Outdated payment integrations can negatively affect checkout speed and increase maintenance effort. By preparing for Wero now, you help ensure your shop stays fast, secure, and aligned with the latest European payment standards.

This transition is a good moment to review your payment stack and make sure it is ready for what comes next
