In partnership with Spits, a digital agency and Hypernode partner.
Spits manages the account for BCF Products, a business that sells 11,000 cargo securing products to serious B2B buyers. BCF’s old shop ran on two systems that did not talk to each other, creating thousands of duplicate product attributes.
The challenge: two systems that did not match
The first system held configurable products, Magento’s term for items with options such as size or colour, grouped under one main product. These lived in an old, custom content management system (CMS), the software that manages a website’s content, and were full of duplicate entries.
The second system held simple products, with each product variant listed separately. These came from Exact Online, an accounting and business platform, through an integration tool called xCore that syncs data between Exact Online and a webshop.
The two systems used different structures and different attributes for the same products. Before BCF could launch a new shop, Spits had to merge everything into one clean product catalogue.
The insight: the real challenge was the data, not the design
Redesigning the storefront was not the hardest part of this project. The real work was untangling and rebuilding the data behind it: two mismatched systems and thousands of duplicate attributes.
The collaboration: Hypernode as Spits’ default hosting partner
For every Magento project, Spits uses Hypernode as its hosting partner. This is not a preference; it’s a rule.
Spits values speed, security and stability, along with a team that picks up the phone when something needs attention. The two teams also share a dedicated Slack channel with Hypernode Partner Manager, Twan van Vuren.
“Magento is deep and complex. It requires a great deal of knowledge, also when it comes to hosting. You want to outsource that to a reliable partner who is fully focused on Magento and knows what’s going on within the Magento community. That’s Hypernode.” Luuk van Lijssel, Magento Developer, Spits.
The solution: one product catalogue, rebuilt in Magento and Hyvä
Spits merged the two data sources into a single, clean product catalogue, removing the duplicate attributes as it went. The new shop was built on Magento, the open-source ecommerce platform, with Hyvä, a lightweight Magento theme, on top.
Spits and BCF worked in parallel throughout the project. While Spits handled the technical migration, BCF defined new product attributes and structure in parallel. Both work streams moved towards the same go-live date.
The results: faster pages and revenue growth
